Vasectomy Postoperative Instructions You have just undergone a Vasectomy. There are some important things for you to be aware of after you are discharged from the clinic.... o If you have had IV sedation, you must avoid driving, or operating machinery for 24 hours. o This procedure can cause some low grade aching discomfort in the scrotal area for several days afterward. o You can normally expect some swelling and black and blueness of the testicle area for several days after the vasectomy. This will then begin to subside. o You are not sterile right away. There is normally a 3 to 8 week supply of sperm In the seminal vesicles that must be depleted after the vas deferens is Interrupted. This will help to decrease swelling. o You should avoid straining, heavy lifting, or strenuous physical activity for 7 days after the procedure. Too much straining can result In a significant Increase In swelling. o You may shower or bathe normally on the day following the vasectomy. The Incisions are waterproof. The stitches are beneath the skin and will dissolve.
